Hiker who fell to her death at Red Rock identified

The Las Vegas woman who fell to her death Friday night at Calico Basin was an experienced hiker.

She has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as 60-year-old Linda Brock.

Police said Brock fell about 40 feet to her death near the Red Springs picnic area of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on Calico Drive about 7 p.m.

Brock was with the Vegas Hikers Meetup group on a trail called Slab Rift Route, an advanced hike with hazards such as falls from high places and loose rocks when she fell.

In her online profile, Brock said she hiked the Gold Strike Hot Springs, Lava Butte, Anniversary Peak, Terrace Canyon and the Ash/Kraft Loop trails with the group. Group members did want to speak to the news media Saturday.

“I lived in Colorado for 8 years and found the mountains in my soul,” her profile says.
