ROAD ALERT: Race for the Cure to require closures in downtown Las Vegas

Portions of 11 downtown Las Vegas streets will be closed for nine hours on Saturday for the 19th running of the Komen Southern Nevada Race for the Cure.

An estimated 12,000 people will be participating in the event, which begins at 8:15 a.m.

City officials said streets will be closed along the race route from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The race route is bounded on the north by Fremont Street, on the west by Las Vegas Boulevard, on the south by Hoover Avenue and on the east by Maryland Parkway.

Large portions of Las Vegas Boulevard, Sixth, Seventh and Ninth streets, Carson Avenue and Fremont Street will be blocked. Motorists will be directed to detours by road signs.
