99 Words About … The malicious first season of FX’s ‘Fargo’

There’s inherent risk in adapting movies for TV.

You could get “M*A*S*H.” You could get “Ferris Bueller.”

“Fargo” is no “Ferris Bueller.”

As its first season concludes (10 p.m. Tuesday, FX), the Coen-esque thriller has showcased a competition between Billy Bob Thornton’s Lorne Malvo and Martin Freeman’s Lester Nygaard to see who can remain the most likable while committing the most despicable acts.

Seriously, “Fargo” drips with malice like some evil baby back ribs.

The year’s best new drama also features the year’s best discovery: Allison Tolman.

The evolution of her Deputy Molly Solverson has been stunning, don’tcha know.
