Inmate escapes from Carson City correctional center

An inmate escaped from a correctional center in Northern Nevada late Tuesday night, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
James McDowell, 36, escaped from the Stewart Conservation Camp, a low-security facility for petty criminals in Carson City. He is serving a 15- to 48-month sentence for grand larceny of a motor vehicle in Washoe County. He was incarcerated on May 9.
Local police have been notified of his escape.
Inmates at Stewart Conservation Camp work with fire crews at the Nevada Division of Forestry, operate the ranch , dairy and training programs for wild horses. They can also work to earn their GED.
