Two cats die in house fire in southeast Las Vegas

Several pets were rescued but two cats died in a house fire early Tuesday morning.

The Clark County Fire Department responded just after 2 a.m. to a neighbor’s reports of a barbecue fire on the front porch of 4629 Kristen Lane, near East Harmon and South Eastern avenues.

The fire extended to the wooden exterior walls of the single-story home and eventually spread to the eaves and attic, according to battalion chief John Steinbeck.

Fire crews arrived as the fire spread around the sides of the house.

Inside, firefighters found the occupants of the home frantically searching for pets, Steinbeck said.

Fire crews searched the home for additional occupants and rescued eight cats and three dogs, which received oxygen. Two cats did not survive.

There were no human injuries, according to Steinbeck. Damage to the home was estimated at $60,000.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
