51s pitcher Syndergaard diagnosed with sprain in left shoulder

The 51s received encouraging news Friday regarding the injury suffered by top prospect Noah Syndergaard on Thursday night.

A statement from the New York Mets indicated X-rays and a CT scan on Syndergaard’s left (nonthrowing) shoulder came back negative. The 21-year-old starter was injured covering home plate after a wild pitch.

He was diagnosed with a sprained A/C joint in his left shoulder and will be restricted from throwing for five to seven days.

Syndergaard was making his first appearance after missing two weeks with an elbow strain.

The good news did not extend to the field. The 51s managed just three hits and fell for the third straight game, 10-1 to the Fresno Grizzlies at Cashman Field.

Pinch hitter Daniel Muno doubled in Cesar Puello with two outs in the seventh for the only run for the 51s (35-26).

Chris Heston allowed three hits and one run in seven innings to claim the win for the Grizzlies (32-30).

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. today and concludes with a 12:05 p.m. game Sunday.
