Not standing still: Riders ‘bike’ for US troops

To raise money for care packages for troops overseas and to mark the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the nonprofit Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation launched a stationary bike riding event Wednesday.

Freedom Ride, the 24-hour fundraiser, runs through 8 a.m. Thursday at Container Park, 707 Fremont St. People can donate $40 to ride for an hour or donate at www.douglasjgreenmemorialfoundation.org, said Suni Chabrow, mother of Army Spc. Douglas J. Green, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2011.

“I know my son is looking down saying, ‘Mom, you’re doing it right. This is exactly what I wanted you to be doing,’ ” she said.
