Tiger Woods misses cut at PGA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tiger Woods has missed the cut at a major championship for only the fourth time in his professional career.

Woods played the front nine of the PGA Championship at 4-over 39 on Friday, effectively ending his chances. He made a couple of birdies on the back nine but struggled to his second straight 3-over 74. His 6-over 148 total didn’t come close to making the cut, which is projected at 143 and can only go up one stroke at the most as the late-starting players finish up.

Over two days at Valhalla, Woods made only three birdies.

The last time he failed to make it to the weekend at a major was the 2011 PGA Championship in Atlanta. He also missed at the 2009 British Open and 2006 U.S. Open.
