Metro officer hurt in 3-vehicle crash

A patrol officer went to the hospital with a broken hand after a three-vehicle crash in the northwest valley, Las Vegas police say.

The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. at Torrey Pines and Vegas drives. A pickup truck ran a red light at the intersection and hit another vehicle, Lt. Mark Reddon said. The two cars spun through the intersection and hit a stopped Metro patrol car.

The patrol officer had a broken hand from the crash, and the pickup driver had what Reddon called a moderate head injury. Both were taken to University Medical Center.

The driver of the pickup may have been under the influence of alcohol, Reddon said. Police were still investigating at 6:15 p.m.

The intersection was partially closed while police investigated.
