New flash flood warning issued for Henderson

Storms above Henderson, Lake Las Vegas and nearby highways prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning Wednesday evening.

The warning was set until 8:15 p.m. as stationary storms continue to produce heavy rain, the weather service said.

The rain across southern Clark County could cause standing water and excess runoffs in low areas and washes, the weather service said, which advise caution on major roads.

Storms hammered east Henderson and west Boulder City Wednesday afternoon. An initial flash-flood warning expired at 4 p.m.

Lake Mead National Recreational Area, near Las Vegas and Callville bays, was under a severe thunderstorm warning until 3 p.m. Dime-sized hail fell and winds were projected to reach up to 60 mph, the weather service said.

Temperatures in the valley at 5:30 p.m. were about 86 degrees and humidity was measured at 27 percent. There was a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms and temperatures were expected to dip below 75 degrees into Thursday morning.
