Arizona jury finds teacher not guilty in sex offenses

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A Boulder City teenager’s allegations that she was sexually abused by a family friend in Arizona were rebuffed by a Mohave County Superior Court jury Wednesday.

The jury deliberated just 20 minutes before finding Michael Nelson, 47, of Kingman, Arizona, not guilty in a dozen felony sex offenses.

The girl testified that the former Kingman school teacher assaulted her in August 2012. Nelson took the witness stand and denied the allegations.

Nelson lost his job at the Kingman Academy of Learning High School following his arrest. He thanked his supporters and his attorneys following his acquittal.
