ROAD ALERT: Heart walk planned in downtown Vegas

Several downtown Las Vegas streets near the Smith Center for the Performing Arts will be closed Saturday morning for a charitable event.

The 2014 American Heart Association Las Vegas Heart & Stroke Walk/Run begins with opening ceremonies at 7:30 a.m.

Several streets, including portions of Ogden and Bonneville avenues, Third Street and Grand Central Parkway, are scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

An out-and-back 5-kilometer course begins and ends at East Ogden and Third. The course winds west to Grand Central, dips onto Symphony Park Avenue, wraps around the Smith Center at South City Parkway, then winds along West Clark Avenue, Promenade Place and Bonneville Avenue to Main Street before reversing back along the same route the opposite direction.

A portion of Third between Fremont and Ogden avenues will be closed for displays for a festival for the event.

Organizers of the event have a goal to raise $320,000 for the Heart Association and as of Wednesday morning had raised more than $316,000.

After the event, 100 percent of receipts from the SlotZilla zipline ride at the Fremont Street Experience will be donated to the cause from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
