Ex-cop convicted in Nevada woman’s death

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A former police officer has been found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of careless driving in a New Mexico wreck that killed a 21-year-old Nevada woman.

Albuquerque police Sgt. Adam Casaus was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday, KRQE-TV reported.

Ashley Browder, a 2009 graduate of Douglas High School in Minden, was killed in the February 2013 accident. Her sister, Lindsay, was severely injured.

Casaus said he was trying to catch up to a drunken driver when he ran a red light and slammed into an SUV driven by Lindsay Browder.

But officials said records showed no dispatchers told Casaus to look out for a drunken driver before the crash.

Casaus faces a maximum of 90 days in jail when he’s sentenced Dec. 5.

Ashley Browder was a member of an Air National Guard unit in Reno.
