Motorcyclist dies in crash on state Route 160 near Red Rock Canyon
December 19, 2014 - 9:38 pm
A chain-reaction crash involving seven motorcyclists travelling together on state Route 160 killed one man and critically injured another Friday afternoon, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical condition, NHP spokesman Loy Hixson said.
Authorities were called to state Route 160, five miles west of state Route 159, about 1:45 p.m., Hixson said.
An initial investigation determined that the crash began when the motorcyclists were trying to pass an RV in pairs. The first pair succeeded, but slowed down, Hixson said. The next two crashed into the first two and the next two followed. The fifth and sixth riders were killed and injured while the seventh crashed into a truck.
No other injuries, including the passengers in the truck, were reported, Hixson said.
The road was closed for more than two hours before reopening at 4 p.m., according to NHP.
The man killed will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office at a later time.
