Elderly man struck in crosswalk in Chinatown

An elderly man was clinging to life Tuesday after a car struck him in a crosswalk in Chinatown, Las Vegas police said.

It happened about 3:40 p.m. when the man, identified as 85-year-old Tai Phung of Las Vegas, was walking across Wynn Road where it crosses Spring Mountain Road, according to police crash report. Phung was eastbound when a 2008 Nissan Altima headed west on Spring Mountain and driven by Chureegorn Ashby, 34, of North Las Vegas, turned south onto Wynn and struck Phung.

Phung was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The police investigation is ongoing. There was no word on potential charges Tuesday night.
