Higa’s triple sparks Bengals to win in Connie Mack state tournament

Micah Higa‘s RBI triple capped a three-run seventh inning Monday to lead the LV Bengals to a 3-2 win over the second-seeded LV Grizzlies in the Connie Mack state baseball tournament at the College of Southern Nevada.

The Grizzlies‘ Nick Rupp had allowed just four hits and struck out eight in the first six innings, but a leadoff triple by Luis Lares started the seventh-inning rally.

The Bengals play the LV Patriots in the winners‘ bracket at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Ed O‘Bannon threw a four-hitter and stuck out 10, and Nick Rush was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and five RBIs to help the Patriots to a 11-1 win over the LV Bulldogs.

The Summerlin Panthers also advanced to Wednesday‘s winners‘ bracket with a 6-4 win over the LV Spartans. Cobi Fiechtner was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Panthers, who play the winner of Monday‘s late game between the GV Elite and the LV Wildcats.

Action continues today with the Spartans playing the loser of the GV Elite-LV Wildcats game at 5 p.m. The LV Bulldogs play the LV Grizzlies at 8 p.m.
