Woods fails to make cut in PGA Championship
KOHLER, Wis. — Play resumed Saturday morning at the 97th PGA Championship but Tiger Woods won’t be moving on to the third round.
Woods tied for 17th at the Masters but failed to make it into the weekend at the U.S. Open, the British Open and now the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits after posting a 1-over 73 to put him at 148 for the tournament, 15 strokes behind the leader, Australian Matt Jones.
“It’s frustrating to miss any cuts because any time you miss a cut, you don’t have a chance to win the event,” Woods said.
Woods, a 14-time winner in major championships, has not won one of golf’s crown jewel events in seven years.
“I haven’t been able to put consistently both together for an entire event,” Woods said. “Maybe for a day or two but not for an entire event. … Now if I can start putting like I did (Saturday) or what I did at Quicken Loans a couple weeks ago, then we got something.”
Severe weather led to play being suspended Friday evening and left 57 golfers needing to finish their second rounds Saturday morning.
Jones was also among that group and finished the round with a 65, putting him at 11 under for the tournament and two shots better than his countryman, Jason Day, who bogeyed the final hole of the round.
Dustin Johnson, who led after the first round with a 66, has dropped to 10th, after shooting 73 in the second round.
Jordan Spieth, attempting to win a third major this year, shot a 67 Friday, putting him at 6 under for the tournament.
