Rickie Fowler finished his first round at the Quicken Loans National in style, making a hole-in-one on the 200-yard ninth hole.
The PGA Tour posted a video of the ace on Twitter, with the caption “WALK OFF. Rickie Fowler just aced No. 9 to shoot an opening-round 67.”
In keeping with the tradition of buying drinks after making a hole-in-one, Fowler left a tub of beers on ice for the media, with the note, “It’s not a mortgage for a year, but enjoy a cold one on me! Cheers! Rickie.”
Fowler was referring to the Quicken Loans Hole-In-One Sweepstakes promotion, a partnership between the PGA Tour and the loan company that makes a fan’s mortgage payments for a year every time an ace is made during a PGA Tour event.
The Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis posted a picture of the free beers on Twitter, writing “Great move by @RickieFowler. He aces par 3 9th and bought drinks for media members. The writing may be impaired.”
