Summer League Rewind: Steph’s little brother can shoot, too
NBA SUMMER LEAGUE REWIND
FRIDAY’S RESULTS
Raptors 90, Kings 68 — Toronto (1-0) had five scorers finish in double figures, topped by Norman Powell’s 20 points, and led by as many as 20 late in the fourth quarter. Bruno Caboclo and Ronald Roberts supplied 15 and 14 points, respectively. Sacramento, the defending Summer League champions, were led by James Anderson’s 15 points. Center Willie Cauley-Stein, the Kings’ top draft pick and the No. 6 overall selection, had 11 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes.
Pelicans 101, Bucks 89 — Seth Curry scored 30 points as New Orleans (1-0) handled Milwaukee. Victor Rudd added 17 and Fuquan Edwin had 16 for the Pelicans. The Bucks (0-1), who shot just 18 percent from the 3-point arc (3 of 17), were led by Sean Kilpatrick’s 24 points. Kevin Jones added 15.
Nuggets 86, Hawks 71 — Gary Harris led Denver (1-0) with 15 points and highly touted rookie guard Emmanuel Mudiay added 11 in his pro debut as the Nuggets won despite shooting only 12 percent on 3-pointers (2 of 17). Lamar Patterson led Atlanta (0-1) with 16 points.
Timberwolves 81, Lakers 68 — Minnesota (1-0) went on a 15-3 run in the fourth quarter after trailing 59-56 to put away the Lakers (0-1). Los Angeles committed 20 turnovers. The Lakers were unable to come back despite 23 points by Jordan Clarkson and 11 by Julius Randle, who played his first organized game since breaking his right leg on opening night in October.
Rockets 111, D-League Select 104 — Houston (1-0) nearly squandered a 16-point fourth-quarter lead, but the D-Leaguers couldn’t pull closer than four points with 17 seconds to go. Alan Williams led the Rockets with 27 points and Glen Rice Jr. had 20. Scotty Hopson scored 27 to lead D-League Select (0-1).
Warriors 83, Cavaliers 75 — James Michael McAdoo scored 20 and Ognjen Kuzmic added 14 as Golden State (1-0) started fast in its quest to regain the Summer League title it held in 2013. Cleveland (0-1), which got as close as 71-67 with just under four minutes to play, was led by Tyler Haws with 12 points. The Cavaliers committed 39 fouls.
THREE STARS
1. Seth Curry, New Orleans. Steph Curry’s little brother showed he can score too as he poured in 30 points in the Pelicans’ win over Milwaukee. Curry, who starred at Duke, shot 10 of 11 from the free-throw line.
2. Zach LaVine, Minnesota. The reigning All-Star slam dunk champion got one alley-oop dunk against the Lakers. He also made a couple of 3-pointers and finished with 24 points as the Timberwolves defeated Los Angeles.
3. Alan Williams, Houston. The former UC Santa Barbara star posted 27 points and 10 rebounds to help the Rockets hold off the D-League Select.

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT
Brandon Ashley, who played at Findlay Prep before moving on to Arizona, made his debut with the Atlanta Hawks and scored 15 points and had five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench in an 86-71 loss to Denver.
Ashley, a 6-foot-9-inch forward who averaged 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Wildcats last season, went undrafted after opting to forego his senior season and is trying to stick with the Hawks as a rookie free agent.
ON THE SCENE
When you think of great actors who are basketball fans, Jack Nicholson would be at the top of most peoples’ list. Nicholson wasn’t there to watch his beloved Lakers, but another great actor — John Malkovich — was front and center as the Lakers lost to the Timberwolves.
Plenty of basketball luminaries were in attendance. Pending Hall of Fame inductee Spencer Haywood, James Harden, Trevor Ariza, Draymond Green, Damian Lillard, Giannas Antetokounmpo and Ben McLemore all showed up on opening day.
