Republican presidential candidates make their way to Vegas

Two Republican presidential candidates are coming to Las Vegas next week: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Walker will have a town hall event at 3:30 p.m. Monday, when he will outline his plans for addressing labor nationally, his campaign said Thursday. The event will be at XTreme Manufacturing Warehouse, 1415 W. Bonanza Road. Additional details were not provided. Walker is well known for his record in Wisconsin, which drastically curtailed the bargaining power wielded by public-sector unions.

“On Monday, I will travel to Las Vegas to lay out our big, bold ideas to transfer power from the big government union bosses to the hard-working taxpayers,” Walker said in a statement. “For example, on Day One, I will stop the government from taking money out of the paychecks of federal employees for political union dues.”

Paul will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday at the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston campus about issues impacting Hispanics. The talk will be presented by the LIBRE Initiative, an organization that espouses limited government principles within the Hispanic community.

Registration is free and required in advance for the Paul event, which has seating for about 200 in the Meacham Student Services Building, Room D101. For more information, visit www.theLIBREforum.com.
