Las Vegan Kris Bryant belted the longest home run in the big leagues this season Sunday, when the Chicago Cubs rookie third baseman’s blast hit high off the scoreboard in left field at Wrigley Field.
According to Statcast, the ball’s projected distance was 495 feet with a batted-ball speed of 111 mph and launch angle of 33 degrees.
Fangraphs put Bryant’s long ball in perspective in a graphic showing all homers hit at least 300 feet this season and their accompanying bat speed. Bryant’s blast tops the chart, though Giancarlo Stanton had the fastest exit velocity at 119 mph for his June 23 bomb, which traveled a projected 479 feet at Marlins Park in Miami.
Bryant, a Bonanza High School product, also launched a 477-foot shot off the Wrigley Field scoreboard in May. He’s batting .267 with 23 homers and 86 RBIs for the Cubs (79-57), all but assured of a National League wild-card playoff spot.
