Woman dies after crash on 215 Beltway

Updated May 26, 2024 - 1:33 pm

Nevada State Police said a woman died Sunday morning in a crash in the southwest valley.

Around 4 a.m., two vehicles crashed on the 215 Beltway eastbound near Jones Boulevard, police said.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, police said that a 2013 Kia Optima was traveling east on the beltway at a high rate of speed west of the Jones off-ramp when it struck a 2022 Toyota Corolla from the back.

The Kia and the Toyota then rotated in opposite directions across lanes until they both stopped on the shoulders on the right and left sides of the highway, respectively.

Three people were taken to an area hospital after the crash. One woman, who was driving the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two others were taken to the hospital for minor and non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The Rainbow Boulevard on-ramp and the eastbound beltway at Rainbow were closed for investigation for several hours but reopened late Sunday morning.

So far this year, the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command says it has investigated 26 fatal crashes that have resulted in 32 fatalities as of Sunday.
