School’s back in, but it still feels like summer in Las Vegas

Summer vacation may be over for most of Clark County School District students, but the summer heat isn’t quite ready to leave.

Monday, the first day of a new school year for most Las Vegas Valley kids, should hit a high of 106 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The overnight low should drop to 84.

Things could be worse. The record high for Aug. 24 was 112 degrees in 2011, meteorologist Justin Pullin said.

By late Monday evening, desert dwellers will start to feel something foreign: humidity.

Moisture and cloud cover will grow overnight, making for a muggy Tuesday, Pullin said. A gray and gloomy day will will also include chances for thunderstorms.

It will be cooler, though, with highs staying in the 90s.

Chances for thunderstorms will continue into Wednesday and Thursday, with predicted highs closer to 100.

Friday is expected to pull back in dry air across the valley, bringing the high back up to 105 degrees.
