NBA Summer League rewind: Tarkanian honored by NBA Summer League
Thursday‘s games
Warriors 76, Knicks 54 — Golden State came back from a 13-2 deficit and led 50-32 with about three minutes left in the third quarter to advance to Saturday‘s quarterfinals. James Michael McAdoo led Golden State (3-2) with 16 points and nine rebounds, and rookie forward Kevon Looney had 11 points and nine boards. Jerian Grant led the Knicks with 14 points. The Knicks shot 22 percent from the floor (15 of 69) and 16 percent on 3-pointers (3 of 19).
Suns 106, Bucks 80 — T.J. Warren led five players in double figures with 23 points as Phoenix (3-1) advanced to the quarterfinals. Archie Goodwin scored 18 for the Suns, and Alex Len had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Milwaukee (1-4), the lowest seed in the playoffs at No. 24, was led by former UNLV guard Rashad Vaughn with 17 points. The Bucks were 12 of 21 from the free-throw line.
Spurs 74, Nets 71 — San Antonio rallied after blowing an 18-point second-quarter lead. Kyle Anderson led the Spurs (3-1) with 25 points, and Jonathan Simmons scored 18 points and had a team-high five assists off the bench for San Antonio. Markel Brown led Brooklyn (2-2) with 17 points.
Mavericks 104, D-League Select 88 — Justin Anderson had 23 points, and Dwight Powell and Maalik Wayns scored 22 apiece as Dallas (2-3) won its second straight after dropping its first three games. Justin Denton scored 31 points for the Select (2-2).
Pelicans 97, Wizards 81 — New Orleans (4-0) got 26 points from Seth Curry, and four other players scored in double figures. Former UNLV forward Khem Birch was 4 of 5 from the field and had 12 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots for the Pelicans. Washington (2-3), which committed 18 turnovers, was led by Scott Machado with 17 points.
Hawks 82, Nuggets 73 — Former Findlay Prep forward Brandon Ashley scored 18 points, and Atlanta (3-2) forced 24 turnovers and scored 29 points off them. Stephen Holt and Lamar Patterson added 17 points apiece for the Hawks. Erick Green came off the bench to lead Denver (3-1) with 17 points.
Bulls 84, Raptors 80 — Chicago knocked off the No. 1 seed, coming back from a 18-point second-quarter deficit and avenging an 81-66 loss from Saturday. Doug McDermott led the Bulls (2-2) with 28 points. Norman Powell and Bruno Caboclo had 15 points apiece for Toronto (3-1), and Lucas Nogueira pulled down 16 rebounds.
Celtics 91, Trail Blazers 85 — No. 2 seed Boston (4-0) advanced, getting 13 points and 10 rebounds from Jordan Mickey. Boston’s Marcus Smart left the game after dislocating the middle and index fingers on his right hand in the second quarter and did not return. Portland (1-3) was led by Noah Vonleh and Ra‘Shad James with 20 points apiece. Allen Crabbe, who sprained his ankle Wednesday against Minnesota, did not play for the Trail Blazers.

1. Doug McDermott, Chicago. Led the Bulls to a come-from-behind win over top-seeded Toronto with 28 points.
2. Justin Dentmon, D-League Select. Scored 31 points and was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line in the Select‘s loss to Dallas.
3. Terran Petteway, Atlanta. Scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists in a victory over Denver.
Local spotlight
The summer league hasn‘t been a welcome home just for the players. Coaches and referees are also working in a familiar surrounding at the Thomas & Mack Center. Former UNLV players John Welch is Sacramento‘s coach, and Brian Keefe is an assistant with New York. Former Rebels assistant Tim Grgurich is working with Milwaukee, and former UNLV manager T.C. Swirsky is on the bench helping Portland.
Las Vegas‘ Tre Maddox, a five-year NBA veteran, has worked several games.
Also, the NBA announced the rosters and coaches for its first game in Africa on Aug. 1 at Johannesburg. Rancho High graduate and current Brooklyn Nets coach Lionel Hollins will coach the Team World squad that includes Chris Paul, Bradley Beal and Pau and Marc Gasol. The game will air live on ESPN at 6 p.m.
Hustle stat of the day
Golden State‘s Chasson Randle had five deflections and two contested 2-point field goals and two contested 3-pointers in the Warriors‘ win over New York.

Former Rebel Louis Amundson came to the Thomas & Mack to watch his team, the New York Knicks, play Golden State on Thursday, Amundson, who signed a contract extension with the Knicks last week, met briefly with team president Phil Jackson, who was also at the game.
