Police say argument led to deadly stabbing in central Las Vegas

Updated August 7, 2023 - 2:20 pm

A man died after being stabbed Sunday evening after a fight in Las Vegas.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment complex on the 2900 block of North Rancho Drive, near Decatur Boulevard, just after 5 p.m. Sunday, according to Metro Lt. Patricia Heldt.

Metro homicide Lt. Jason Johansson said the two neighbors lived in two apartment buildings across from one another and the two got into an quarrel on the roadway separating the two apartment buildings.

The fight ended when one of the men was stabbed twice, according to Johansson. He died at the scene.

The man suspected of stabbing the victim drove off in a dark four-door sedan, Johansson said. Dennis Love, 61, was found less than five miles away, on Balzar Avenue, and arrested later Sunday.

He is being held without bail on a murder charge.

Court records show he was sentenced for battery in 2000, 2014 and 2018. In 2020, Love was sentenced to probation for coercion after his guilty plea resulted in prosecutors dropping charges of battery, sex assault and preventing or dissuading a witness from testifying or producing evidence.

This story has been updated to correct the gender of the stabbing victim.
