Cold snap coming to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving weekend
The valley is cooling down just in time for Thanksgiving Day celebrations, travel and holiday shopping.
Valley residents should expect a “big change” midweek, National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Outler said Sunday. Bundle up because a “strong” weather system is bringing the chill.
Monday’s conditions will be similar to Sunday’s, Outler said. Highs in the mid to upper 60s and lows in the mid 40s.
The change will begin Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning when cold winds will pick up, especially in the northwest valley mountains, Outler said. On average, winds are expected between 15 to 25 mph.
There is a remote chance for rain on Tuesday, Outler said, but the valley will likely just see clouds.
And that wouldn’t be too bad if the high temperatures weren’t expected to drop into the 50s. Thanksgiving Day’s high temperature isn’t expected to top 53 degrees, Outler said. The low temperature is forecast at 37 degrees, which might bring the first freeze of the season.
The good news is that shoppers waiting in lines on Black Friday won’t experience winds or precipitation. Temperatures are forecast to remain the same through the weekend, Outler said. Highs won’t go above the mid-50s or below the 30s.
