Flash flood watch remains as rain hits the valley
Las Vegas is under a flash flood watch through Sunday as scattered showers continue.
And by the end of the weekend, the Las Vegas Valley could see up to an inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
The same system that brought rainfall to the valley Friday was part of the same storm that caused mudslides in California, the weather service said.
Clouds and rain kept temperatures at or below 80 degrees, meteorologist Chris Outler said. That’s a 10-degree difference from Thursday’s hot and humid conditions.
The rain did not cause disturbances other than slick roadways, Outler said. McCarran International Airport, the weather service’s official measuring site, only received traces of rain on Friday.
And Saturday should be similar, Outler said. The weather service predicts a 40 percent chance of rain, mostly in the morning.
Things should pick up Saturday night into Sunday morning, when there’s a 70 percent chance of rain and a forecast high of 77 degrees.
Rain is not a “big concern” until Sunday when stronger storms could cause flooding, Outler said. The flash flood watch expires at 10 p.m. that day.
