Colder weather continues as winter approaches
The cooling temperatures of the past few days will continue to drop in Southern Nevada for the rest of this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Mount Charleston received at least 3 inches of snow, following a record-breaking high of 64 set on Dec. 12. The previous record was 61 degrees set in 1996.
However, temperatures for the valley are a little bit warmer than usual, Weather Service meteorologist Reid Wolcott said.
Tuesday’s high is expected to be 51 degrees, and the overnight low 37.
Wednesday’s high is expected to be 48 degrees, and the low will be about 31. Certain parts of the valley might dip even lower than that, Wolcott said.
Following a few days of light rain, the rest of the week will be dry in the valley. A weak system will move in Saturday, but it is expected to bring only light clouds, he said.
Winds will remain light until the end of the week, gusting up to 25 mph Tuesday night and tapering off.
The snow along Interstate 15 near Mountain Pass, which created slick road conditions Monday, has melted away, and travel conditions are normal.
Temperatures will continue to cool approaching the official first day of winter on Dec. 22.
