Henderson police arrested a man on a murder charge Wednesday in the death of his 5-year-old son.
Gerald Oglesby, 33, was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on one count of murder.
Police said first responders were called about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 700 block of Center Street, where they found that the child was not breathing.
He died at the scene, police said. The boy was not immediately identified by authorities.
But several child custody cases involving Oglesby identified his 5-year-old son as General Sema’j Oglesby.
In 2017, court records show the boy’s mother filed for full custody of the boy, arguing that Oglesby’s girlfriend “threatens me and i honestly don’t trust her around my son,” the mother wrote.
In 2021, the mother filed for partial custody. She wrote that she and Oglesby got along and she did not need him to pay child support.
On Feb. 17, the woman filed a third custody complaint and accused Oglesby of “kidnapping” their son. She said she had not seen him since Feb. 3.
Attempts to reach the mother Wednesday were unsuccessful.
Las Vegas Justice Court records show Oglesby was arrested in September on a warrant and charged with three counts of domestic battery and one count of domestic battery by strangulation. Court records show the report was initially taken on Nov. 30, 2020, but the charges were dismissed two weeks after the September arrest.
Oglesby’s attorney on the case, Michael Miceli, could not be reached for comment.
