Could Las Vegas see snow on Christmas?

Could Las Vegas experience its first white Christmas ever?

That’s the question National Weather Service meteorologist Chad Shafer said to keep asking, as the week-out forecast models show some potential for snow.

“There is a system that’s coming in around that time,” he said Thursday.

That system, if it hits Las Vegas, will bring low snow levels.

Because Thursday’s seven-day forecast doesn’t include Christmas Day, it’s too early to definitively say whether those levels will be “Las Vegas Valley low,” Shafer said.

“Stay tuned.”

The last time Sin City residents saw snowfall on the holiday was in 2008 — but t’was only a trace.

“That does not count as a white Christmas,” Shafer said.

The criterion is at least 1 inch.

Until then, the valley will see a gradual warm-up through the weekend, keeping temperatures at or just above average.

The high on Thursday will be 51 degrees, and the low, 36 degrees. Friday will reach 56 degrees, and Saturday, 59 degrees. Lows will be in the high 30s to low 40s.

Expect sunshine and passing high clouds for the rest of the week.
