Sky Sox strike early in 11-1 rout of 51s

Tyler Cravy pitched eight sharp innings, and Colorado Springs totaled nine extra-base hits among its 19 hits as the Sky Sox routed the 51s 11-1 in a Pacific Coast League game Wednesday at Cashman Field.

Cravy (5-4) held Las Vegas (29-18) to one run on five hits and two walks and struck out five. He also had an RBI double in the third inning, accounting for one of the five two-out runs that Colorado Springs (17-28) scored in the first four innings.

Scooter Gennett, Logan Schafer and Nevin Ashley, the first three batters in the Sky Sox lineup, each had three hits. All 10 Colorado Springs batters, including pinch hitter Chris Nelson, had at least one hit, and six had at least two.

The Sky Sox ambushed 51s starter Tyler Pill (1-2) with six first-inning hits, including three doubles, that made the score 3-0.

Pill gave up seven runs on 12 hits and one walk and struck out two in four innings.

Ashley hit a two-run homer in the second inning and an RBI single in the eighth.

Matt Clark had two doubles for Colorado Springs, and Pete Orr had an RBI double and a run-scoring groundout.

Brandon Allen, who went 2-for-3 with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly, was the only Las Vegas batter with multiple hits.

The teams conclude the four-game series at 7:05 p.m. today, with right-hander Taylor Jungmann (1-2, 6.90 ERA) starting for the Sky Sox against right-hander Matt Bowman (2-5, 6.98). Las Vegas then leaves for an eight-game trip, playing four games at Nashville and four at Memphis before returning home for an 11-game homestand.
