Program turns out Junior Master Gardeners — PHOTOS

Hands-on gardening is under way for a new crop of students going through the Junior Master Gardener program this summer.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s program started Thursday at the Research Center and Demonstration Orchard on 4600 Horse Road in North Las Vegas. Another group of students will start the program Friday at the Lifelong Learning Center’s Outdoor Education Center at 8050 Paradise Road in Las Vegas.

The courses run through July 31.

Children are learning about plants, water, soil and vegetables. Leadership skills are also part of the 4-H program, which touches on safety with tools and community service.
