Thunderbird F-16 with engine trouble lands in New Mexico
A U.S. Air Force F-16 assigned to the Las Vegas-based Thunderbirds demonstration team landed without incident in New Mexico Thursday after reporting an engine problem.
There were no injuries and the F-16 landed without incident, said Daniel Jaramillo, a spokesman for Albuquerque International Sunport.
The jet was on a routine training mission when its pilot reported possible engine trouble, Jaramillo said, and asked to land at about 9:20 a.m. Las Vegas time.
The Albuquerque airport shares runways with Kirtland Air Force Base, where the jet was towed for mechanical work, Jaramillo said.
It wasn’t immediately clear where the jet was flying from or where it was heading.
The Thunderbirds, based out of Nellis Air Force Base, are scheduled to perform in Millville, N.J., over the weekend.
A Thunderbirds spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
