At Reno rally, Trump says NFL and America are going ‘soft’

Add the NFL to Donald Trump’s list of campaign trail targets.

At a Reno rally, the GOP front-runner said professional football — like the United States — have both gone “soft.”

“You used to see these tackles and it was incredible,” Trump said.

“The whole game is all screwed up,” Trump added. “Football has become soft, like our country has become soft.”

That’s a stark contrast from other criticism the NFL has recently faced.

Just last year, a study found 87 out of 91 former NFL players studied tested positive for a brain disease that was likely linked to concussions. That issue — dramatized by a new movie featuring Will Smith — has put the NFL under pressure to take head trauma injuries more seriously.

Trump, though, said he doesn’t like the direction the league is going in. The mogul added he rarely watches the game.

“It’s become weak, and you know what, it’s going to affect the NFL,” Trump said.

But there is still one thing Trump likes about the sport — “I do love Tom Brady,” Trump said, referring to the Patriots Super Bowl champion quarterback who has been a political supporter.
