Las Vegas weather to stay cooler than usual this week

The mild weather that welcomed people to Rock in Rio and the annual Helldorado parade Saturday will remain in the Las Vegas Valley for at least another week, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday’s forecasted high of 81 is eight degrees below the average temperature for May 17, said Weather Service meteorologist Nathan Foster.

And it won’t get any hotter than 82 for the next seven days, except for Wednesday and Thursday.

Recent low temperatures are caused by low pressure systems hitting the valley, Foster said.

“It’s associated with cool air that keeps dropping down from the Pacific Northwest,” he said. “It moves down from California to the east, and the Rockies.”

On Saturday, scattered showers sprinkled Mount Charleston and valley, while temperatures remained more than 10 degrees below average for the third straight day.

Temperatures reached 78 degrees at McCarran International Airport, the weather service’s official monitoring site, at 4:54 p.m. That’s 11 degrees below the average high of 89 for a May 16, Foster said.
