Minor league player arrested after allegedly throwing rocks at girlfriend
A 21-year-old minor league baseball player with the Cincinnati Reds was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of aggravated assault after police said he threw a rock and struck his girlfriend in the head outside a Glendale restaurant.
Glendale police said Tanner Jeremy Rahier, a third-baseman for the Class A Dayton Dragons in 2014, refused to pay his tab at Pullano’s Pizza and started to argue with the bartender just after midnight.
His girlfriend tried to talk with him to get him away and he started arguing with her, according to police.
She was able to get him into the parking lot of the restaurant at 13848 N. 51st Ave., where he started throwing rocks at her, police said. One of the rocks struck the woman on the left side of her head, leaving a deep cut and knocking her unconscious.
The woman told police she had been dating Rahier for about a month.
Police said Rahier was intoxicated.
Rahier denied throwing rocks at the victim and said he does not know her, according to police.
Rahier was booked into jail on one count of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of assault with intent to injure.
He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
