East Coast weather affecting Las Vegas flights

As hazardous as travel conditions were in the northeastern United States on Monday, they’re going to worsen on Tuesday.

And like Monday, they’re going to bite into McCarran International Airport’s schedule.

A total of 3,130 flights were canceled from Northeastern airports Monday as the region braced for a storm expected to bring up to 3 feet of snow to some areas.

FlightAware, a service that monitors commercial flights worldwide, reported late Monday that 4,255 flights already have been canceled on Tuesday with 292 more knocked off the schedule on Wednesday.

FlightAware also said 39 flights were canceled between McCarran and other airports on Monday and 42 others were delayed. As of late Monday, 35 Las Vegas flights were canceled for Tuesday and one American Airlines flight to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday was listed as canceled.

LaGuardia International, Newark Liberty International and John F. Kennedy International, the three major airports serving New York City, were hardest hit by the storm. Late Monday, 3,027 departures and 395 arrivals had been canceled at LaGuardia.

More than half of the arrivals at those three airports were canceled on Monday.

JetBlue Airlines, based at Kennedy International, canceled 279 flights.

Airlines have lifted restrictions on rebooking flights during the storm and persons with tickets on any flight from McCarran have been encouraged to contact their airlines since some flights are dependent on aircraft coming from the affected area.

In addition to New York, high numbers of cancellations and delays have been reported at Philadelphia International Airport, Boston’s Logan International and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport by FlightAware.
