Swanner’s RBI single in 15th inning lifts UNLV past Northwestern, 9-8

Joey Swanner’s RBI single in the 15th inning lifted UNLV to a 9-8 win over Northwestern in a nonconference baseball game Friday night at Wilson Stadium.

Dylan Ellis led off the bottom of the 15th by getting hit with a pitch, advanced to second on a single by Austin Anderson and scored on Swanner’s hit.

Anderson and Morgan Stotts each had three hits for the Rebels (10-10), who led 6-0 after four innings and 7-2 after seven. Stotts hit a grand slam in the first, and Erik Meetren had a solo homer in the seventh.

Zach Jones went 7-for-8 for the Wildcats (4-14), including a two-out RBI double that tied the score at 8 in the ninth.

Joey Lauria took the mound after Jones’ tying hit and pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout relief, giving up two hits and striking out five.

UNLV starter D.J. Myers gave up two runs (none earned) on eight hits and two walks and struck out six in seven innings.
