Pedestrian critically injured in hit-and-run on Las Vegas Strip
A 52-year-old man was critically injured early Monday in a hit-and-run crash on the Strip while trying to return to the Wynn Las Vegas shortly after police had escorted him off the property.
Just before 6 a.m., a Metropolitan Police Department officer walked Dimitri Oleinik from the hotel-casino to the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Wynn Main Gate Drive, where the officer left him.
“He decided he wanted to return to the Wynn again,” Capt. Jason Letkiewicz of the Metropolitan Police Department’s traffic bureau said of the victim.
As he crossed east on Las Vegas Boulevard, outside a marked crosswalk, a black or dark gray newer-model Toyota Camry struck him, launching Oleinik into the air before he landed just north of the intersection, according to police.
The Toyota left north on Las Vegas Boulevard, “never stopping to check on injuries or call medical and police.”
Oleinik was taken to University Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Monday afternoon, police said.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver is asked to contact Metro at 702-828-4060 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 to remain anonymous. Police said the involved car likely has windshield damage.
