Icy conditions ground thousands of arriving flights in Northeast

March began with every state but Florida getting at least a little snow, leaving flyers stranded across the Northeast.

The Northeast was slammed again with snow and ice, causing more than 8,000 flight delays and 2,400 cancellations, according to International Business Times.

LaGuardia Airport in New York City grounded all arriving flights Sunday due to icy conditions, as well as New York’s two other major airports, John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty International.

“When you have an airport as busy as LaGuardia stop accepting flights, you are going to have a ripple effect to a lot of places,” Pittsburgh International Airport spokeswoman Alyson Walls told the Post-Gazette.

A large number of flights were canceled Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Boston.

According to the Weather Channel, the last time all 50 states reported snowfall was more than five years ago on Feb. 12, 2010.

While Las Vegas saw a light drizzle Sunday, Northern Nevada reported moderate snowfall.
