Excessive heat warning issued for Las Vegas Valley

Updated August 2, 2019 - 9:29 pm

The Las Vegas Valley will be getting even hotter, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat warning through Monday.

The valley typically averages highs of 104 degrees this time of year, but after Friday’s high of 108, the mercury is expected to stay in that same area through the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will see a high of 110.

An excessive heat warning will go into effect at 10 a.m. Saturday, and is expected to last through 8 p.m. Monday. The heat warning means meteorologists are “highly confident” that the forecast hot temperatures will develop, the weather service said.

The high is expected to climb to 111 on Monday, followed by a high of 109 on Tuesday and 106 on Wednesday.

Overnight lows during the period will be about 86.

“It may trend up a little hotter,” meteorologist Stan Czyzyk said early Friday. “There’s potential for some of those days to be even hotter, so we’ll be taking a look at that today.”

Meanwhile, Saturday through Tuesday will see mostly clear skies and dry conditions, according to the weather service. Winds will also stay calm through the five-day period.
