Driver killed in 2-vehicle northwest Las Vegas crash

Updated July 31, 2019 - 9:51 pm

An unrestrained driver was ejected and killed in a two-vehicle crash late Tuesday in northwest Las Vegas.

The crash occurred about 11:15 p.m. at North Cimarron Road and West Alexander Avenue, where a Ford heading north on Cimarron ran a red light at Alexander and struck another car, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The Las Vegas man driving the 2005 Ford Expedition, 57-year-old Thomas Azbill, died at the scene, the Clark County coroner’s office said Wednesday. Azbill was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

A 36-year-old woman driving a 2018 Mazda CX-9 was hospitalized at University Medical Center with moderate injuries. She did not show signs of impairment, police said.

Azbill’s death marks the 64th traffic-related fatality investigated by Metro this year.
