Man hospitalized after shooting at Las Vegas apartment complex

Updated April 19, 2019 - 6:12 pm

A day laborer was shot during a robbery Friday afternoon at an apartment complex in the east valley, Las Vegas police said.

Officers received a report about 2:40 p.m. of a man shot at the Las Palomas Apartments, 4040 Boulder Highway, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Aden OcampoGomez said Friday afternoon. Police on Friday believed the man was a day laborer engaged in “a work related venture” when he was shot during a robbery, Metro Lt. Bill Steinmetz said.

The man was a passenger in a sedan with two other people, who parked and demanded his property, Steinmetz said. The victim struggled, and one of the people in the sedan shot him in the hand.

He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, Steinmetz said.

Officers were in the area attempting to locate the shooter Friday afternoon, OcampoGomez said.

Further information about the shooting was not immediately available.
