Bicyclist killed in collision in east Las Vegas Valley

Updated October 22, 2018 - 3:53 pm

A bicyclist died after he was hit by a dump truck Monday morning in the east Las Vegas Valley, police said.

The crash was reported about 8:35 a.m. after the person on a BMX-type bicycle rode in front of a 2007 International roll-off dump truck near Lamb Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, a Metropolitan Police Department release said.

The 47-year-old bicyclist was heading west on the north sidewalk of Sahara while the dump truck was turning right from westbound Sahara onto northbound Lamb, the release said. The bicyclist rode across Lamb in front of the truck. The truck hit the rider, who “became wedged” under the right front tire, the release said.

The truck driver stayed at the scene and called in the crash. The bicyclist died at the scene.

The death marks the 113th traffic fatality investigated by Metro this year.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the bicyclist’s identity, as well as his cause and manner of death, after his family is notified.
