Minus 5 Ice Bar is one way to chill out over Labor Day Weekend
September 1, 2016 - 10:43 am
It’s been a brutally hot summer, and just as we all looked forward to it cooling down a little as we get ready for Labor Day Weekend, the temperatures are surpassing 100 degrees again.
Just how and where do you cool off? Is there an escape from the relentless heat? Is there really a perfect place to chill out?
I turned to one man who really knows how to beat the heat: Noel Bowman of Minus 5 Ice Bars. Even the glasses and chandeliers are made of ice. It’s so cold where he hangs out daily that teeth chatter and fur coats and gloves must be worn. Don’t even think about a bikini!
Here’s Noel on how to beat the heat:
When Las Vegas starts to hit triple digits, that’s when we all crave that one spot, that one place that will cool us down and take us back to cooler temperatures.
That’s why we created Minus 5 Ice Bar. After visiting an ice hotel in Sweden, we knew that something similar needed to be introduced in the States.
Now with two locations in Las Vegas, The Shoppes at Mandalay Place and Monte Carlo, it’s the perfect spot to cool down, enjoy a drink or two and be treated to the best place in Las Vegas to beat the heat.
EVERYTHING IS MADE FROM ICE
To make sure that our guests have the full effect of the ice bar, we have created an experience that can be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Everything inside the bar is made entirely out of ice, including the walls, chandeliers and glasses.
We keep the bar set at a chilly -5 degrees Celsius, 23 degrees Fahrenheit, something that sets us apart from the ordinary bars on the Strip.
The bright lights and high-rise buildings of the Las Vegas skyline are one of the attractions for tourists, and we re-created that element inside our all-new ice bar at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place that features more than 120 tons of ice.
The ice bar features LED lights installed to illuminate the Strip ice sculptures, as well as our re-creation of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, so guests don’t have to stand in the heat to capture the iconic Las Vegas symbol.
We change the ice sculptures every six weeks and try to stay on top of trends and what everyone is following, from HBO’s GAME OF THRONES Iron Throne to BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN in honor of the recent BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.
Guests will always be treated to new and exciting sculptures at each of our locations. It’s never too early to celebrate the launch of football season and the hopes of a Las Vegas team coming to the city with our football-inspired scavenger hunt featuring seven lucky teams.
Guests who locate all seven sculptures receive a complimentary shot from our Lombardi-inspired trophy luge. When hell freezes over, right? But the highlight of most of our guests’ visit is drinking from an iced cup, as it definitely makes you feel like a kid again.
Made entirely out of ice, your cup serves as a drink chiller, as well as an unexpected need to always want exceptionally cold beverages from now on. The longer you drink your beer, the colder it gets — only in the ice bar, of course.
CELEBRITIES AND THEIR COCKTAILS
You never know who you’re going to see at the ice bar. Celebrity visitors have included Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and former world heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis.
Since introducing the Celebrity Cocktail Series, we’ve been fortunate enough to host iconic Las Vegas celebrities and performers with their own ice bar experiences and who create their own signature cocktails.
There’s Carrot Top’s Heat Miser, Gordie Brown’s The Golden Gordie Brown and master mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim with his Bubbling Cosmopolitan.
These small details help make up the overall ice bar experience that can’t be achieved anywhere else. After you’ve enjoyed your fun in the sun and lounged by the pool, take a break from the sizzling sun and take a trip to the coolest bar in town, parka and gloves included.
