Northern Nevada deputy shoots, kills suspect in domestic dispute

CARSON CITY — A Douglas County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspect in a domestic dispute south of Carson City over the weekend.

The Carson City sheriff’s office and Nevada Division of Investigations is investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence on Shadow Lane in the Sunridge community a few blocks east of U.S. Highway 395.

KTVN-TV reported that Douglas County sheriff’s deputies identified the dead man as 77-year-old Jimmy Alan Moss of Yerington.

Deputies say they told Moss, who was drunk, to leave the residence after he made threats to “kill the police.” Authorities say Moss sped away, hitting a deputy.

Authorities say the deputies fired their weapons at Moss as he struck one deputy with his car. Moss died at the scene.

One deputy was injured and transported to Carson Valley Medical Center. He was released from the hospital and is undergoing treatment for multiple injuries.

The incident is under investigation.
