‘Million Dollar Quartet’ to close Dec. 4 at Harrah’s; ‘Spoofical The Musical’ ends Saturday at V Theater

Two more shows on the Las Vegas Strip received surprising closing notices Monday night, bringing the total to six in the last few weeks in addition to the JERSEY BOYS closing that looms Sunday night at Paris Las Vegas.

The beloved jukebox musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Harrah’s is closing Dec. 4. This year is the 60th anniversary of the one-and-only night that Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins got together for an epic jam session at Sun Records Studios in Nashville that forms the story of the show.

It has run for more than 1,500 performances to standing ovations for four years since its February 2013 debut and has featured Taylor Hicks, Clint Holmes, Holly Madison, Frankie Moreno, Pia Zadora and The Righteous Brothers as some of its guest stars.

Las Vegas producer David Saxe confirmed to me this morning that he has to close his SPOOFICAL THE MUSICAL at V Theater in Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops after this Saturday’s performance.

David told me: “The cast has been incredible, and the show has some of the funniest moments ever seen in a Las Vegas show. But, in the end, the title and its concept have not been conducive to ticket sales.”

David added: “On a positive note, this opens a primetime 7 p.m. opportunity for another show, and I encourage anyone with an amazing show or new concept they’d like to pitch to submit an email to casting@davidsaxe.com.”

There is some good news in this epidemic of show closings: X BURLESQUE, X ROCKS and X COUNTRY producers Angela and Matt Stabile will launch their new show COMEDY DAREDEVIL at Hooters on Thursday with Ryan Stock and partner Amber Lynn.

They are the couple who shocked TV viewers when their stunt of Amber Lynn firing a blazing arrow into a tube in Ryan’s mouth went wrong on NBC’s AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, and it wound up lodged in his neck.

On Wednesday, the fiery and ferocious Los Angeles dancers of Cherry Boom Boom start previews of their Tropicana rock-a-go-go cabaret. The grand opening is set for Sept. 29. The gorgeous girls right out of MTV music videos go topless, but it’s not burlesque as we’ve come to know it for the new generation. Call this comedie del arte.

The new show SOLID GOLD SOUL with phenomenal soul and Motown impersonators also premieres Sept. 29 at Windows Showroom in Bally’s. This show was due to open a year ago here but unfortunately was canceled when millionaire producer Marc Paskin, who appeared on ABC’s SECRET MILLIONAIRE, had a stroke and nearly died.

Marc has been working hard on rehabilitation so that he can get out of his wheelchair to walk down the aisle for his Oct. 15 wedding in San Diego. The cast of SOLID GOLD SOUL will perform at the ceremony.
