Las Vegas police arrest suspect in Tuesday shooting death

Updated December 21, 2017 - 5:59 pm

Las Vegas police arrested a 48-year-old man late Wednesday night in connection with a shooting the previous evening that left one man dead and another critically wounded.

Alex Yanko, 48, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4200 block of South Fort Apache Road, near West Tropicana Avenue, about 3 miles south of where the shooting occurred, police said.

Yanko is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police were called about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 3600 block of Starbright Lane, near El Capitan Way and Spring Mountain Road, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon said the night of the shooting.

Officers found two men who each were shot multiple times. The men were hospitalized at University Medical Center, where one of them died, police said.

The Clark County coroner’s office on Thursday identified the man who died as 47-year-old Edward Richard Budd, of Las Vegas.

Budd and the other man had been in front of a home on Starbright Lane when a man they knew approached them, police said. Moments after what police believe was an argument about money or property, the man shot them both and fled.
