Red Carpet Report: ‘One Epic Night’ at Plaza; ‘Adventure Capitalists’ on CNBC; Amorino gelato; Evander Holyfield

What happens to the finalists of your favorite TV talent shows if they don’t win the top grand prize? Some fans and viewers would argue that they, too, deserve their own shows.

Now it’s about to happen with ONE EPIC NIGHT that debuts for a limited engagement at the Plaza downtown with various runner-up stars from hit TV programs including THE VOICE, AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, AMERICAN IDOL and MASTERS OF ILLUSION.

Starting on my birthday, Aug. 29, ONE EPIC NIGHT will feature Las Vegas magicians Jarrett and Raja, “The Magic & Piano Guys.” They were Howie Mandel’s wildcard pick on Season 7 of AGT and competed on MASTERS OF ILLUSION and SHARK TANK.

Other performers include Season 6 THE VOICE contestant Megan Ruger, who also appeared on AMERICAN IDOL Season 10; singer-guitarist James Durbin, who finished fourth on Season 10 of AMERICAN IDOL; and Will Chaplin, third-place finisher on Season 5 of THE VOICE.

An all-star band that includes Brent Muscat, Michael T. Ross and Stet Howland, will back up the entertainers. Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel confirmed the new show’s run through Jan. 4:

“As seen on TV and now at The Plaza, there is simply nothing else like this show in Las Vegas. It’s an unforgettable live stage show experience starring audience favorites from megahit TV shows. It’s entertainment for everyone and one more reason for tourists and locals to come downtown.”

A second new show is Tony Sacca’s VEGAS THE STORY, which launches Sept. 23 at Windows Showroom in Bally’s. A longtime and beloved Las Vegas entertainer and show producer, Tony worked with my pal, the late comedian David Brenner, on its material and storyline.

Tony says music will be under the direction of Grammy winner Gary Anderson and feature a cast of five others who will tell the history of our city in music and song.

DESERT THRILL-SEEKERS

A new primetime original series, ADVENTURE CAPITALISTS premiering on CNBC on Aug. 22, will feature a daring journey through our Mojave Desert in its second episode, also on my birthday. The series gives entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase new products in the great outdoors for which it’s designed.

Jeremy Bloom, Craig Cooper and Dhani Jones are the thrill-seeking athlete investors who will take on physical and financial risks to test game-changing products before agreeing to risk major investment funds. The products range from an acoustic shark repellant and an electric, three-wheel, all-terrain bike to a collapsible bathroom for camping.

Dhani is a former New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker and currently the chairman of the investment fund Qey Capital Partners. Jeremy is a three-time world champion, two-time Olympian and member of the U.S. Skiing Hall of Fame. He is co-founder of marketing software company Integrate and regularly seen as a sports analyst on ESPN, Fox Sports and Pac-12 Network.

Craig was managing director and head of venture capital at Saban Ventures and a founding partner in Softbank Capital Technology Fund. He’s raised more than $800 million for leading digital media companies. Each hourlong episode will show the adventure capitalists putting the products through extreme endurance testing to see how they hold up against Mother Nature.

The Mojave Desert episode filmed outside Las Vegas has the investors sweating out their life-changing decisions in the heat on land around Death Valley. Three products in the desert episode include Instaprivy, a full-body wilderness privacy toilet; Shouldit Hydrosport, an active wear hydration vest; and the Rungu electric-powered, all-terrain mountain bike.

IT’S NO SECRET

One of the reasons I love my annual visits to Italy is because of the gelato. Think of it as the national dessert. Now Amorino, widely considered by Europeans to be one of the best gelato brands known for its flower-shaped gelato and all-natural flavors, is opening at The Linq Promenade.

The 1,500-square-foot space is its second location in Las Vegas and marks the 150th store worldwide. Fans will find a fixed variety of 24 flavors, as well as delicious seasonal options. See you there?

STAR SURVEILLANCE

Boxing legend Evander Holyfield visited the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, home of The History Channel’s PAWN STARS, this morning. Evander and his friend Shelby talked with the store’s champion, Richard “The Old Man” Harrison, and posed for photographs with him.
