CM Punk’s journey to the UFC detailed in new documentary — VIDEO

It has been a long, strange journey for Phil Brooks to finally make his UFC debut, which is expected to happen in Cleveland at UFC 203 on Sept. 10.

Brooks, who appeared under the stage name CM Punk during his time in WWE, walked away from professional wrestling as one of the biggest stars in the sport in order to pursue a dream of competing in the UFC.

His debut has been pushed back several times for a variety of reasons, including injury. Brooks now appears set to finally compete in professional mixed martial arts and do it at the highest level against Mickey Gall.

That path has been documented and will be the subject of a four-part series on Fox Sports 1. Part one of “UFC Presents: The Evolution of Punk – The Ground Up,” will air at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 15.

A preview of the first episode was made available online Tuesday.
